Broadcast Journalism - Future Business Leaders of America
This video was made for a Future Business Leader of America (FBLA) competition called Broadcast Journalism. My team and I got to use our journalism skills in a different way to make this video. As a group we had a hard time figuring out how to make our video seem as professional as possible. We worked hard on writing transitions and openings much that would be found on a real broadcast. We competed at state FBLA and made it to FBLA nationals in Baltimore, MD by presenting a form of this video in front of live judges. I chose to include this video in my portfolio because it is a whole different side of journalism that love to do as well. I would to learn more about broadcast journalism because of its importance to our society. I am thankful for FBLA and journalism because it has taught me more about the different ways journalism can be used to tell stories.
Scholastic Press Corps Competition
This video was made at the Kansas State Fair competition in September through the Scholastic Press Corps. The competition is held throughout the week of the fair and takes place from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.. We arrive at the fair early to make a four minute video that includes a main story, agriculture story, both which we draw the day of the competition, and a free story that we pick. This year I was placed on a team that had never done the video competition before so I was in charge of all of the editing and voice overs. It was very challenging to get all of the stories done on time with the craziness of the fair activities. I chose to include this video in my portfolio because I think it shows my diversity in different forms of journalism through broadcast and video work.
